Upholstery Courses

Perkins & Gibbs upholstery courses are relaxed, informative and friendly. They take place at their workshop on Earsham Park Farm, a beautiful rural location on the Suffolk & Norfolk border.

Welcome to our workshop

Libby and Tam are passionate about you getting the most from your visit, but this doesn’t mean they don’t stop for a well-earned tea break and piece of cake! A nutritious home made lunch is also provided on group courses.

We currently offer 3 different types of group upholstery course as well as one-to-one training for more complicated upholstery projects. There are both traditional and modern upholstery courses on offer so students can choose which will suit them best.

Traditional upholstery is crafted using natural materials such as jute webbings, hessians, and stuffing’s such as horse hair and coconut coir. The elements are fixed in place with tacks and everything is done by hand using traditional upholstery tools.

Modern Upholstery uses foam and a different range of skills to manipulate it. The layers are fixed with a staple gun. It is as much of an art as traditional upholstery, just an alternative set of processes.

Larger groups

We can also cater for groups, parties and team-building. We love sharing our workspace with like-minded people and would be happy to create a bespoke course to suit your needs.

“The success of the upholstery course alone really hammered home yet again that if I put my mind to something, I can succeed at it. It was hands on, practical and has allowed me to do more of what I love… sitting on my derrière.

However, this would not have been such an enjoyable achievement without the tools, materials, expertise and guidance, all whole-heartedly given by the distinguished duo at Perkins & Gibbs”
